2009 Umass Conference on Swordsmanship

Members of Phoenix Swords were invited to present at the Fourth Annual Conference on Swordsmanship, sponsored by the Massachusetts Center for Renaissance Studies. Although the title involves swords, this year, the stars of the show were actually the poll arms brought by Doctor Snook (author of The Halberd). Frank (Fenix) And Mark Millman of Higgins Armory Museum demonstrated Halberd technique from the Fechtbuch of Joachim Meyer. Daniel Armenti spoke on the Raymond J. Lord Collection. Paul Kenworthy spoke on Weapons Drills of the Early Massachusetts Colony Militia (see armored gentleman below) And Nate (Perrin) and Fenix represented the Association for Renaissance and Medieval Swordsmanship demonstrating sickle from a manual by Paulus Hector Mair. And photos of a four-hundred year-old illuminated songbook from the library just for fun :)
